Elements of UE

Five Elements of User Experience:
  1. Strategy
  2. Scope
  3. Structure
  4. Skeleton
  5. Surface

I am trying to articulate my understanding with the help of “Apple iPhone” as an example.

  1. Strategy: Apple’s strategy was to combine iPod, Mobile Internet Device and Mobile Phone. Potential customers would be young generation.
  2. Scope: With iPod in iPhone apple would sell more music, audio books from iTunes. For internet surfing from iPhone apple would promote Safari browser. Third parties who would develop applications for iPhone would pay royalty/fees to apple, example: Google maps, Kindle, Amazon Remembers and the latest bank application of USAA.
  3. Structure: It includes studying conceptual and artifact model of mp3 players, iPod, MID, Mobile phones, PDA, telephone diary and digital camera and characterizing features and functionality as per the user study findings.
  4. Skeleton: It includes layout of the iPhone, placement of the tabs, navigation elements, navigation behavior as well as designing functionality that allow navigation personalization.
  5. Surface: It comprises of skin of the phone, its color scheme, font, font size, rollover effects and transitions.
